Building a Master Resume – Key Tips

  1. Typically go back 20 years and list all of the jobs and companies you worked for. Your master resume should be as many pages as it takes to capture all your information.
  2. Focus on your Customer Service, Communication, Organizational, Project Management and Leadership Skills.
  3. Include key Accomplishments and Recommendations from each of your positions.
  4. Make sure you list all courses, certifications, diplomas and degrees.
  5. You should keep up-dating your Master Resume on a monthly basis.  If you wait too long you may forget projects or other minor things you accomplished that could be relevant in getting your next job or promotion.
  6. Your Master Resume should be at least 1 page for every year you have work.  20 years of work, should result in a 20 page Master Resume.

FACT:

Keeping a Master Resume and up-dating it on a regular basis, is the best way to organize all the projects/duties that you have been involved with throughout your working life.

Building Targeted Resumes – Key Tips

1. Your resume should include the following format:

(Value Proposition, Accomplishments; Recommendations, Work Experience, Education and Certifications).

2. Under each section of your resume avoid bullet points and include descriptive paragraphs when describing key information.

3. Use similar language on your resume as the position you are applying for has.

4. As a general rule: keep the resume to 2 pages and be very specific in the information you include.

5. The purpose of the resume is to get you an interview and not a job.  Your resume is your calling card and should be treated as your key selling tool when seeking a new job or making a career change.

FACT:

When applying for jobs online, the majority of corporate recruiters will scan and look for key words and similar language related to the job.  Targeted resumes get you noticed and more often than not lead to interviews.
