Intel reduces staff in Greater Seattle area

Tech giant Intel Corp. plans to sell its campus in DuPont but lease back some of the space, company spokeswoman Chelsea Hossaini said Monday.

About 700 people work for Intel in DuPont, Pierce County, and about 300 of them will be kept on to work in Intel’s data center server group. Some of the other 400 employees will be transferred to other Intel locations, such as Hillsboro, Ore.

“Others may leave the company, but that’s being worked out right now,” Hossaini said.

The reason for the sale is that the facility is under-utilized, Hossaini added. She said Intel, based in Santa Clara, Calif., has operated in DuPont for 17 years, and has space for 3,000 employees.

Hossaini did not know the size of the DuPont facility, nor how much space Intel plans to keep there. She said Intel has not yet hired a real estate company to help them sell the facility.
